"To respect the dignity and preferences of each family and to make an effort to learn about it's structure, culture, language, customs, and beliefs"
This statement is significant to my professional life because each family has something special to bring to the classroom. An increase diversity of cultures language, customs, and beliefs from families can led to opportunities to teach children about social acceptance and valuing different perspectives.
"We shall strive for the highest level of personal and professional competence by seeking and using new evidence based information to improve our practices while also responding openly to the suggestions of others"
Every child learns at their own pace and in different ways. The following statement is important because as an early childhood professionals we should always be on the search for new and innovative ways to engage all children in learning.
"Appreciate childhood as a unique and valuable stage of the human life cycle"
I believe childhood is one of the most valuable stages of the human life. The experiences that children go through shape their views for adulthood. The appreciation that I have for childhood is the reason why I value early childhood education. A child that is given a strong and positive foundation in academics has a better chance of achieving success when they get older.
Shirley I am really glad you are so willing to be open to new ideas and new research. I work with a lady who I adore, she is my friend and a good educator but she thinks she knows all there is to know about teaching and is completely closed off to new ideas. I think it is so sad because if she would just be a little more open minded then she would go from being a good teacher to being a phenomenal one. As a teacher myself I think we never stop learning new things to improve both the art and the science of teaching others.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteShirley I feel that you have a very positive attitude as a person and as a professional in the early childhood field. The code of ethics implemented this type of attitude. I agree everyone interest in working with children and their families should be open for new exciting ideas to engage all children learning.
Shirley, I really enjoyed this post, especially your third ethic that you shared. Appreciating each child as an individual and encouraging their positive growth and potential is so important to their development. I am glad to hear you are so interested in such values, too. :)
ReplyDeleteShirley,
ReplyDeleteYour third ethic was amongst my favorite. I think more often people forget the importance of childhood. During that part of the life cycle the child learns so much that help them later in life to reach their full potential.
Shirley,
ReplyDeleteYour second ethic is the reason I continue to learn more about the field. I want to make sure that I'm giving 100% an applying any information that will help children grow into successful adults.
